Protective coatings for business owners

While protective coatings are commonly utilised and well-known for their use by the industrial sector, they can also be an advantageous choice for other types of business owners such as retail shops and restaurants.

A quality coating applied after proper surface preparation through ultra high pressure water or abrasive blasting can greatly reduce a business’s maintenance, repair, and replacement costs.

The outward appearance of a business also directly affects its ability to bring in customers and keep them coming back and its overall value as an asset, in addition, improperly maintaining equipment and facilities can often present safety hazards.

A few types of protective coatings useful to business owners include:

Anti-slip and self-levelling coatings:

Anti-slip coatings help promote a safe environment for employees and customers by reducing the risk of slips and falls.

Self-levelling coatings help keep surfaces level by creating a pressure-resistant layer on surfaces that doesn’t wear down in heavy traffic areas.

Both coatings also provide a moisture barrier to prevent corrosion and other damage to the surface itself.

Anti-graffiti coatings:

Graffiti is a major and costly expense for many businesses.

Anti-graffiti coatings can be applied in two types: permanent and sacrificial.

Sacrificial coatings create an easy to remove layer that graffiti adheres to rather than the permanent structure beneath and eventually need to be stripped and reapplied, while permanent graffiti coatings create a clear-coat over the surface which spray paint does not adhere to well.

Graffiti is easily cleaned from the coated surface as a result.

Permanent anti-graffiti coatings often only require a single coating over the lifetime of a business.

Water-resistant coatings:

Particularly useful for water-proofing and sealing concrete or asphalt parking lots, water resistant coatings prevent water from reaching the surface material.

Water and moisture levels are major factors in the rate of deterioration and corrosion of surfaces and equipment.

Other protection:

There are a wide-variety of different types of coatings that can prevent a surface from scratching, rusting, corroding, staining, growing bacteria, fading in colour or becoming contaminated on top of those coatings mentioned above.

A quick call to a corrosion control, surface preparation and cleaning, and/or coating application professional can better advise business owners of their local options for protection and against what.

However, one thing is unquestionable, the correct coatings can save money and time in the long run making them a wise investment for any business.
